HOW LONG DO THE OUTAGES LAST?
Around 73% of respondents experienced total outage times of between 15 minutes and one hour, during the
course of the last year.
Though the greater part (around 78%) of partial interruptions cause outages running to 15 minutes or less,
there are nonetheless a fair proportion (18%) of cases in the range of 15 minutes to half an hour. But however,
brief it may be, downtime is downtime - with its attendant nancial losses and negative impact on customer
relations.
A mid-sized chain of retail outlets has been estimated by some to lose around $3,000 per minute when
payment services go down. At that rate, losses from payment service interruptions mount up very quickly.
