4. Reduce the communication gap
Once the point of sale is set up to accept Chinese mobile payments, merchants shouldn’t forget to make it
visible to Chinese visitors with signage at the door and/or at payment terminals. In order to not only attract
Chinese shoppers with Alipay and WeChat logos but to make sure the order goes through, merchants (and
especially cashiers) should mention these payments options to Chinese customers when they are ready to
check out and get the staff to become familiar with the procedure to get a quick and smooth payment.
A Mandarin onsite signage is strongly suggested for that all-important seles to be taken and shared with
friends on chats and social media. Some cultural training is also an important investment that will improve
the way the onsite team welcomes the Chinese and helps them make the most of their visit.
