HOW ARE CHINESE SHOPPERS DIFFERENT ?
1. Shopping makes them really happy
Chinese enjoy shopping. Unlike Americans or Brits, Chinese consumers experience shopping as something
fun rather than being a chore. A survey by Millward Brown pictures 68% of Chinese respondents as “happy
or overjoyed” shoppers, while only 48% of American and 41% of British respondents feel the same way
when it is time to shop. Millward Brown also found that Chinese shoppers are much more curious and
enthusiastic than others in learning about products they are planning to buy.
2. They are natural omnichannel shoppers
Chinese customers value e-retailing more than the brick-and-mortar retail experience. They

In
2018
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) interviewed more than 15,000 global online shoppers and found that 75%
of Chinese shop online on a weekly basis, a massive chunk of the market compared to a global average of 21%. In
the Chinese retail scenario, technology is integrated into the shopping process, social media, smartphones,
tablets and PCs play a decisive role the decision-making and buying.
The country leads the world in mobile shopping. PwC survey shows that more than three out of four Chinese
consumers have used a mobile phone to shop, compared to a global average of 43%. A remarkable fact is
that one in four Chinese consumers say that they shop with a mobile phone at least once a week. The global
average: only 9%. And these Chinese customers carry their preferences abroad when it comes to shopping.
3. They are more demanding
